Earth and Space Science

Earth observation satellites are helping us in better understanding the monitoring of our environment. Today, scientists within climatology, oceanography, meteorology as well as national agencies plus logistics companies are all dependent on updated satellite information.

Design, development and data analysis of great satellite programs require expert’s scientists with great knowledge not only in designing spacecraft and orbit mechanics but also in satellites programs, also in Earth orbit science, navigation plus remote sensing. From a knowledgeable point of view, this is a challenge. Classical university designs cover parts of this spectrum in various disciplines. These are electronic engineering, aerospace engineering or geodesy.

Thus many organizations around Munich decided to combine their excel and set up a graduate program with the aim of teaching satellite application engineers. The outcome is the ESPACE Master's program, started in 2005.

In ESPACE cooperation with Ludwig-Maximilian University, University of the Federal Armed Forces and the German Aerospace Center. The ESPACE Master's program includes of spacecraft technology plus orbit mechanics with programs in Earth system science, navigation and remote sensing. The program is well established in Munich, which offers an unique environment with its unique concentration of learn-how related to satellite- and space science and new technology in industry, research organizations and universities.
